Themes  Bookmark Site   Wet tail is a common stress-related diarrhea that generally affects younger hamsters. Stresses include transport, extreme hot or cold conditions, dirty living spaces, not enough water and sudden changes in diet.   Signs of wet tails are dirty fur near the underside of the tail or, in severe cases, wet fur on or near the tail. If you spot either of these conditions, you should contact your local vet as soon as possible. To prevent wet tail you should clean your hamster's cage regularly and change the water daily. If you have more than one hamster keep each one in separate cages, as they will fight if kept together. Try not to place your hamster's cage in or near a window or direct sunlight. When introducing a new food or snack you should start with small amounts. Wet tail is not normally considered transmissible to people, but as with any sick animal, you should always wash your hands after handling hamsters. Generally, hamsters are healthy and free of disease. When properly cared for, your hamster will live a happy and healthy life.
